The Master's degree program "Electrical Engineering and Computer Science" at the Faculty of Engineering belongs to the educational and scientific field of Technical and Technological Sciences and the scientific area of Electrical and Computer Engineering , lasts one year (two semesters) and is worth a total of 60 ECTS.

Only candidates who have achieved at least 240 ECTS in their undergraduate studies and have the academic title of Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science obtained at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Kragujevac or at another related faculty, or at an accredited study program in the scientific field of Electrical and Computer Engineering, can enrol in these studies.

Although the proposed study program as such is unique, i.e. does not contain modules, students are offered a list of elective courses, some of which may also be offered in other second-cycle study programs of the Faculty of Engineering. All offered courses are elective and each carries 6 ECTS, with the proviso that the choice of certain courses may be conditioned by appropriate prior knowledge, which is prescribed by the conditions for attending classes in the chosen course. The courses are divided into two elective groups: the first, which consists of courses from the scientific field of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the second, which consists of courses from other related fields. In master's studies, students choose five elective courses worth a total of 30 ECTS, with the condition that they must choose at least three courses from the first elective group. In this way, it is achieved that the majority of courses that students take are from the field of electrical engineering and computer science.

The study program also includes Professional Practice – Electrical Engineering and Computer Science lasting 90 hours (5 ECTS) and Master's Thesis – a study research paper, as a work on the theoretical foundations of the Final – Master's Thesis (10 ECTS). The Final – Master's Thesis (15 ECTS) is the result of the student's independent work, which systematizes and applies scientific and professional knowledge in order to solve specific problems in the field of electrical engineering and computer science. In this way, students demonstrate the ability to draw appropriate conclusions, as well as the ability to present a certain subject to the professional public.

The comparability of the outcomes of the study program with relevant international models is the basis of the strategy for ensuring the quality of the teaching process of the Faculty. The conditions for enrolment in the study program and other most important elements of the study program and study regime are prescribed by the Statute and the Regulation on the Study Regime of the Faculty of Engineering in Kragujevac

Purpose of the study program

The purpose of the master's degree program "Electrical Engineering and Computer Science" is to provide additional education for students in the field of electrical engineering and computer science at the master's level, which ensures the acquisition of knowledge and skills necessary for the successful performance of professional engineering tasks within the global labor market, as well as for continuing education within the global educational space.

The Master's degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science lasts one year, or two semesters, has 60 ECTS and provides students with competencies that, with a certain orientation towards acquiring professional skills necessary for engagement in practice, also enable them to continue their academic education at the next level of study (doctoral studies).

The purpose of the study program follows and is in line with the basic tasks and set goals of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Kragujevac - education of students in the scientific and educational field of Technical and Technological Sciences , whereby students acquire internationally relevant competencies for a given level, type and area of study. This specific study program is designed in such a way that from the quantitatively modest human resources in the field of electrical engineering and computer science that the Faculty of Engineering has at its disposal, the graduated master engineers in electrical engineering and computer science will obtain qualitatively as good as possible knowledge and skills that will be relevant not only in the national, but also in the European and global frameworks.

During the studies, students should acquire, confirm and improve knowledge and skills for the relevant specific areas of the engineering profession, specifically in the field of electrical engineering and computer science, which in itself implies the development of analytical skills in relevant sub-areas, and then the ability to develop, synthesize and design appropriate (electronic) devices, devices or programs. At this level of study, a full range of professional engineering competencies and qualifications are acquired. Also, at this level of study, students will be introduced to the methods of scientific research work and will be involved in real research tasks through study research work and the preparation of a final master's thesis.

The study program aims to enable graduates to find employment in the fields of industry, research, development, services, consulting and organizational work and to familiarize them with the latest achievements and trends in the subject areas of their narrow interest, all in accordance with the needs of society as a whole. Therefore, the proposed study program is socially justified and useful because the field of electrical engineering and computer science in the broadest sense can be considered a support and driving force not only of the high-tech sector, but also of the entire industry.

Study program objectives

The objectives of the proposed study program of the master's academic studies "Electrical Engineering and Computer Science" are aimed at acquiring academic skills and specific knowledge (competences) in accordance with current world practice for studies of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the master's academic studies level, with appropriate methods for their acquisition. The objectives also include the further development of students' creative abilities and mastering practical skills necessary for the successful performance of the engineering profession, as well as for further training.

In accordance with the above, the main goal of the master's degree program "Electrical Engineering and Computer Science" is to provide additional education and training to graduate electrical and computer engineers for the analysis, development and design of more complex system parts, as well as systems as a whole. The goals also include not only further introducing students to everyday engineering practice, but also to simpler aspects of scientific and research work, but also to acquiring knowledge transfer skills. Thus educated experts in the scientific field of electrical engineering and computer science will be able to immediately fit into the current economic environment and thus partially compensate for and reduce the needs of the economy for this type of personnel. Graduated master's degree engineers in electrical engineering and computer science will also have the ability to transfer their knowledge and results to the wider scientific and professional public at the initial level, both orally and in writing.

Also, the advanced fundamental knowledge acquired in the proposed study program will ensure unhindered monitoring of the latest global trends and scientific achievements in the field of electrical engineering and computer science. This is one of the key aspects given the extremely high dynamics in the aforementioned profession and this scientific field in general. In addition, the goal of the study program is to prepare students for possible continuation of education (primarily in doctoral academic studies) as well as further training and work on themselves. In this regard, and in accordance with modern educational goals, students should acquire work habits for continuous education and advancement in order to be able to follow technological movements and trends in their engineering career, as well as to adapt and independently develop themselves professionally.

The objectives of the study program are fully aligned with the current demands of the labor market and economic development in the scientific field of electrical engineering and computer science and the defined qualification framework.
